Welcome to Eleni and Alexander's Conservation page!

There are many ways that humans can have impact on tropical rainforests. Tropical rainforests are one of the main sources for our lumber used to build houses and other builings. There are a lot of tropical fruits, plants and animals that you can't find anywhere else. People often take the fruits to other countries. The plants go to scientists for research. The animals go to zoos all over the world.

Since tropical rainforests have lots of good lumber for us to use, lots of people are cutting down trees. When you cut down just one tree, you could be taking away the homes of many different animals. Tropical rianforests covered 14% of the whole world at one point. Now they cover only 6%. Just humans alone have destroyed more than half of the tropical rainforest's land. To help bring tropical rainforests to a higher percentage, all you have to do is simply plant a tree. Better yet, you can plant two or more trees.

Also, many scientists and zoos are taking these plants and animals straight out of the tropical rainforest, and placing the plants in labratories, and animals in zoos. This action causes the food chain to get messed up for all of the plants and animals still living in the tropical rainforest. To help restore the population, you can (if you're willing to) release any pets you have, into the rainforest, that came from it, such as a snake. Or, you can plant any tropical rainforest plant you have in your home in an area that looks like it was cleared.

Tropical rainforests are being helped by organizations, such as The Nature Conservancy. These organizations are re-creating habitats for plants and animals by planting many trees. These trees can form new ecosystems that welcome plant and animal life into them. Also, these organizations are preserving what habitats are left.
